Team Remedium is back for the third year! An update...
Last fall on September 5, the four year anniversary of my dad's death, I was sitting in the office of a neurologist near the OUHSC campus because I was selected to work on a research project with patients who have Parkinson's Disease (PD). Our research will help expand the base of knowledege about PD and potentially improve the quality of life for those impacted. When I first walked into her office, I was shocked at first, but then a smile came to my face and tears filled my eyes. I recognized the neurologist immediately because my dad was her patient for several years. While I was there, I thought back to the day my dad passed, four years prior, and how helpless I had felt. Then I thought how wonderful it was that just a few years later, I have been given the opportunity to help people who have PD and how proud my dad would be of me. That was a beautiful and empowering moment!
In memory of my dear father, and in honor of the more than 15,000 Oklahoman’s living with Parkinson’s Disease, I have decided to play a role in helping Oklahoma Parkinson’s families by creating a team for the Parkinson Foundation of Oklahoma’s Rally Walk & 5K. This event is the state’s largest event to raise awareness and support for Parkinson's Disease.
Unfortunately, I will not be able to do the walk since it takes place the weekend before my final exams, however I still want to help this amazing organization. The Parkinson Foundation of Oklahoma provides group voice therapy to PD patients free of charge, giving them their voice back. Additionally, they provide support and education to people with PD and their families. Therefore, it is important to me to help raise money to assist with this endeavor.
Since 2017, with the help of my friends, I have raised $5,406!!!
Will you help me by donating to the Parkinson Foundation of Oklahoma on my behalf?
Thank you for helping with a cause that is so near and dear to my heart!
